WAC Track Championships Underway

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State opened the 2011 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a third place men's finish in the decathlon and a sixth place women's finish in the heptathlon. The University of Hawaii is hosting the championships in Honolulu.
With the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon multi-events in the books, Utah State's men and women are in the lead after day two of the four-day WAC Championships.
For the women, Utah State leads with 10 points, followed by Nevada with nine points and Louisiana Tech with eight points. Boise State is in fourth place with six points, Fresno State is fifth with three points, New Mexico State is sixth with two points, and host Hawai'i is in seventh place with one point. On the men's side, Utah State is in the lead with 13 points, Idaho is in second with 10 points and Fresno State is third with eight points.
The day began with the conclusion of the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon. Fresno State's Taylor Jackson finished sixth, recording 4,839 points in the seven events held over two days.
For the men, Fresno State's David Deal finished third, for the second straight year, with 6,839 points.
Thursday's field events begin at 5:00 p.m. (PT) with the women's hammer throw while track events start at 7:00 p.m. (PT) with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
