Patel in the Mix at NCAA Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - After the first day of competition, Fresno State men's golfer Bhavik Patel sits in a tie for 23rd place at the NCAA West Regional. Patel, participating as an individual, shot a 1-over, 73 on the 6,903-yard, par-72 course at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
The tournament features 13 teams and ten individuals who are all vying for spots in the NCAA Championship. The top five teams and only the top individual will advance to the championship.
Patel, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., fired a birdie on the 304-yard, par 4 sixth and capped off his round with another on the 512-yard, par-5 18th. Patel is in fourth place out of the individuals.
CSU Northridge's Nick Delio, ranked 54th in the nation, is the top individual after day one with a 2-under, 70. Don Denyse from Siena (71, -1) and Donald Constable from Minnesota (72, E) are the only other individuals currently ahead of Patel.
Jeffery Kang of USC sits in the overall lead at 6-under, followed by No. 43 Dylan Frittelli (Texas) and No. 87 Steve Lim (USC) at 4-under. No. 15 USC (278, -10) holds a commanding nine shot team lead over No. 2 UCLA and No. 11 Texas (287, -1).
Patel returns to action Friday for the second day of competition at the NCAA West Regional and will tee off from the 10th hole at 10:10 a.m.
