FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Greg Gonzalez has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for May 16-22, which marks his fifth WAC honor this season - the most of any WAC pitcher.
Gonzalez, a senior from San Bruno, Calif. (Skyline JC), improved to a perfect 10-0 this season with a 7-1 victory over Nevada in the team's regular season finale last week.
The victory helped Fresno State claim a share of the WAC's regular season title. Gonzalez has now won 12-straight decisions dating back to 2010, the third best current NCAA win streak.
For the third time this season, Gonzalez struck out 12 batters in a single game, which is a career best.
Gonzalez allowed only one run in eight innings of work. His ERA dropped from 1.47 to a.144 after seven scoreless innings.
The other pitcher of the week nominations: Hawai`i senior Blair Walters ... Louisiana Tech sophomore Caleb Dudley ... Nevada sophomore Tom Jameson.
"We Are You Team!" - Fresno State will battle for the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Tournament title in Mesa, Ariz., this week. You can always stay connected with Fresno State Athletics on Facebook and Twitter (@FSAthletics).
