FRESNO, Calif. - In the first round of the NCAA Women's Singles Championship, the matchup between Fresno State's No. 58 singles player Marianne Jodoin and No. 46 Alexandra Poorta of Saint Mary's was not short on excitement. Advancing into a three set match and going into a tiebreaker, Jodoin fell to Poorta, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (16-14) Wednesday evening at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
Due to inclement weather, matches were delayed and pushed back causing Jodoin and Poorta's match to get a late start.
Jodoin started the match off strong earning the first set to her advantage, 6-4.
Poorta rallied back and picked up the second set to her gain.
Going into a third set the players battled back and forth, continually tying up the score and leading them into a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker points were neck and neck until Poorta drew ahead and defeated Jodoin. This concludes Jodoin's rookie year as a Bulldog.
"Marianne has everything to be extremely proud about her freshman year," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "She is disappointed in her narrow loss today but she is a true Bulldog."
