Dogs Draw Minnesota in NCAA Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - The NCAA announced the 38th-ranked Fresno State men's tennis team will take on No. 19 University of Minnesota for the first round of the NCAA Regional on Friday May 13 in Berkeley, Calif. The winner of the Fresno State-Minnesota match will face the winner of the match between host No. 15 California and Marist.
These two teams met earlier in the season on January 29 at the ITA Kick-Off weekend on a neutral-site match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. When these two teams met up, Fresno State was ranked No. 28 in the country and Minnesota was ranked No. 33. Minnesota defeated Fresno State, 4-2.
Last weekend the Dogs won the Western Athletic Conference over No. 57 New Mexico State.
The Gophers also made an appearance in its Big Ten Tournament championship match, finishing second to No. 4 Ohio State last weekend.
Fresno State boasts the No. 108 singles player, junior Remi Boutillier who was named first team All-WAC in singles and first team All-WAC in doubles with partner Rikus de Villiers. The duo is currently ranked No. 15 in the country.
Fresno State owns a 2-1 all-time record over the Gophers and before this season the two teams hadn't met since 2004.
