FRESNO, Calif. - Senior kicker Kevin Goessling has been named to two preseason watch lists for the upcoming 2011 season.
Goessling (Placentia, Calif.) earned first-team All-WAC honors last season after leading the team in scoring with 105 points. He made 21 of 26 field goals and was 42-for-44 in PATs in 2010.
Goessling was also named the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week twice last year. Earlier this month, Goessling was also named to the College Football Performance Award Watch List along with teammates Logan Harrell and Robbie Rouse.
The 20th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, recognizes the three (3) finalists during an early week celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet on December 6, prior to joining ESPN in Orlando.
The Award, is named for National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an "All Pro" offensive lineman, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
