24 DAYS UNTIL BULLDOG FOOTBALL:
FRESNO, Calif. --- The excitement and enthusiasm surrounding the Fresno State football team's Sept. 3 season opener against the California Golden Bears at Candlestick Park continues to grow as the Bulldog Ticket Office surpassed its goal of selling 10,000 tickets for the game on Wednesday morning.
"We're thrilled that so many of our fans will be at Candlestick for this game," head football coach Pat Hill said. "I've really liked how our practices are going so far and I can't wait to get on the field to take on Cal! It's going to be a great college football game."
It will be just the third meeting between the two schools with Fresno State holding a 2-0 lead in the series. Fresno State won the last meeting 17-3 in 2000 at Bulldog Stadium.
By reaching and surpassing the 10,000 ticket milestone, the Fresno State Department of Athletics will receive more than $750,000 for competing in the contest and can earn additional revenue with the sale of more tickets. Fresno State and California partnered with Russ Potts Productions and WFI Stadium, Inc., who are the game's promoters.
"Knowing that more than 10,000 Red Wave fans, 400 band and spirit team members and a football team that is ready to start the season against Cal in Candlestick is tremendous," Senior Associate Athletics Director Paul Ladwig said. "We know a sea of red will be in the park on Sept. 3 and our students will start buying their tickets later this month. We hit the goal of 10,000 tickets out the door and we have more to sell. If you don't have your tickets yet, please call, go on-line or stop by the ticket office."
Tickets for the Cal game are available through the Bulldog Ticket Office at three different price points based on seat locations at $95, $75 and $40 each and all tickets purchased through the Bulldog Ticket Office will benefit the Fresno State Department of Athletics.
Candlestick Park is home to the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. The two schools and game promoters would like to create an atmosphere much like other rivalry games at neutral site locations where the stadium is filled with both school colors, similar in nature to the annual Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl between Oklahoma and Texas.
