14 Days Until Bulldog Football:
FRESNO, Calif. - Saturday night marked the end of the 2011 fall training camp for the Fresno State football team. The Bulldogs had a productive 18-day camp, where the `Dogs came out a better team and saw only one serious injury.
"I think we've had a really good camp," said head coach Pat Hill. "We're a better team now than we were in the spring. This team has made huge strides in the last 18 days."
The Bulldogs ran 70 plays in the final scrimmage of camp and running back Michael Harris impressed with several big carries. The junior scored the first two touchdowns of the scrimmage for the offense.
"Tonight went really well," said Harris. "I woke up this morning feeling good, so tonight went pretty well. The holes were opening up a lot today. The line played hard, opened the holes and I hit them hard."
Harris, who took most of the reps for the red unit, had one carry for a 47-yard gain and a second carry for 20 yards.
All four quarterbacks rotated through the scrimmage. Starter Derek Carr connected with senior Devon Wylie on some big gains and finished the evening completing four of eight passes. Freshman Marcus McDade completed three of six passes while working with the green unit.
The defense played well and stopped the offense attempting to drive down the new FieldTruf. However, the offense dominated on the goal line as A.J. Ellis rushed in two touchdowns from two and three yards out.
The Bulldogs have the next two days off to prepare for classes that start on Monday. The `Dogs begin their focus and preparation for the opener against Cal next week.
