FRESNO, Calif. - Staying hydrated will be key for the Fresno State women's soccer team who kicked off preseason practice Wednesday as highs reached 100-degrees in the area.
"It's usually pretty toasty," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "We arrange the sessions so that we aren't necessarily doing the hardest work during the hottest part of the day. But we do make sure to get out there and do some of that work because we are going to have to deal with it for our home games. Better to be prepared for it."
The Bulldogs, who are currently practicing three times a day, have one week before they travel to the first of two exhibition games this year. UC Irvine will host Fresno State on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. The Anteaters finished the 2010 season ranked No. 14 in the nation after bowing out of the NCAA Tournament in the third round.
Zwaschka is excited to face UC Irvine so early stating, "they are a top team. We want to make sure that we feel some pressure right away and we play against a quality opponent so there is an understanding, for having so many new players, of the levels they can expect and we know we are capable of competing with."
Cal comes to town on Saturday, Aug. 13 for the Bulldogs last preseason matchup. The Golden Bears fell in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Game time is set for 3 p.m. on the newly completed Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
