Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season

FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Remi Boutillier and sophomore Nick Papac make their season debut for the Fresno State men's tennis team at the 11th annual HEB Baylor Invitation this weekend in Waco, Texas. Action will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 and continue through Sunday Sept. 25.
The reining WAC champions are set to compete against some of the top schools and players in the country.
Men's tennis head coach Jay Udwadia is excited for the high level competition and to see how the guys are comparing early on in the season.
"Remi's ranked No. 47 and a senior, so he's been to tournaments like this before and same with Nick," Udwadia said. "It's good preparation leading into the season with the All-American Tournament right after."
Boutillier was named first team All-WAC in singles and doubles and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
Papac, the only Fresno native on the team competed in the NCAA Tournament against No. 19 Minnesota in the first round and No. 15 California in the second round.
The Baylor Invitational consists of one 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles bracket.
Teams participating include: Arizona, Baylor, Fresno State, Iowa, UL-Lafayette, Laredo CC, Maryland, Midwestern State, New Mexico State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Portland, Rice, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio and UT-Pan American.
