DENVER, Colo. - The Western Athletic Conference announced Monday that Fresno State linebacker Travis Brown and kicker Kevin Goessling have been named the Verizon WAC Football Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
This marks the third-straight week that a Bulldog has been named either the Defensive Player of the Week or Special Teams Player of the Week. For Goessling, this is the sixth time in his career that he has been named the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week and for Brown, this is his second career WAC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Brown, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Clovis West HS), had a career-high 11 tackles in Fresno State's 48-24 win at Idaho. Brown led the Bulldog defense that allowed just 55 yards of total offense in the second half and 44 yards rushing for the whole game.
Goessling, a senior from Placentia, Calif. (Servite HS), made all six of his extra point attempts and both field goal attempts in the win at Idaho. Both field goals were good from 48 yards out and came in the first and third quarters. Goessling is now fourth in WAC history with 56 field goals made in his career and he needs just 40 more points to break the all-time scoring record at Fresno State.
Fresno State host Mississippi this Saturday, Oct. 1 at 6:15 p.m. in a game being nationally televised on ESPN2. Ole Miss becomes the first SEC team ever to play at Bulldog Stadium.
