FRESNO, Calif. - Former Bulldog Danny Muno is making his mark in the minor leagues. Muno finished atop the New York-Penn League in batting with a .355 average at the end of the regular season.
The second baseman ranked in the top five in runs (45), hits (78) and walks (43) and led the league in doubles (23). He also led the league with an on base plus slugging percentage of .980.
Muno was a two-time All-Western Athletic Conference infielder at Fresno State. He broke the career runs scored record of 209 during his senior season. Appearing in every game the Bulldogs have played in the past three seasons, Muno was also named to the WAC All-Tournament Team in 2011.
As a member of the Brooklyn Cyclones (a NY Mets affiliate), Muno is preparing to take on the Staten Island Yankees in the first round of the league playoffs.
The Cyclones are riding a six-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of the Yankees that earned them the McNamara Division Wild Card.
Game one of the best of three series takes place Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. PST in Brooklyn. The series winner will take on either the Auburn Doubledays (Pickney division champion) or Vermont Lake Monsters (Stedler division champion) in round two of the NY-Penn League playoffs.
