FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team opens the 2011-12 season this Sunday when it hosts No. 12 Pepperdine at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center at 12 p.m. The match is free admission to all fans.
Head coach Jay Udwadia and the 'Dogs are excited for the home opener.
"They are consistently one of the best teams in the country," Udwadia said. "We have been looking forward to this match up and we are excited about the season."
The Bulldogs were set to play San Francisco at home on Saturday, Jan. 21, but the match was cancelled due to expected poor weather conditions. The match will be rescheduled at a date to be determined later.
The 'Dogs were ranked No. 35 in ITA preseason polls and two members of the team were nationally ranked in singles. Senior Remi Boutillier was ranked No. 14 nationally and sophomore Francis Alcantara was ranked No. 44 in the singles polls.
Boutillier has earned his spot as the natural leader for the Bulldogs as the highest decorated team member this season. Boutillier significantly improved his fall ITA ranking of No. 47. He was named WAC Player of the Month for last October and November. He earned first team All-WAC honors in singles and doubles for the 2010-11 season.
