Doubles Duo Advances to Round of 16

FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State men's tennis team competed in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships Friday and Saturday in Moraga, Calif. on the campus of Saint Mary's College. The doubles dou of Sam MacNeil and Reid DeLaubenfels won a tight match in a tiebreaker to advance to the round of 16 in the main doubles draw.
The Bulldogs picked up multiple wins Saturday in singles and doubles. In doubles action both pairs of Bulldogs won the opening round of 64 and advanced to the round of 32. Here, MacNeil and deLaubenfels won a thrilling match 9-8(2)in a superset tiebreaker to send the doubles duo to the round of 16 where they will face Oregon's Mullen and Cambier on Sunday.
In the consolation singles bracket, three out of the four 'Dogs came out on top to continue play in the tournament. Jeremy Quiroz won a tight two set match 6-4, 7-6(1) over Jackson Martin. DeLaubenfels notched another win on the day by defeating James Markiewicz 7-5, 6-3. Newcomer Sam MacNeil cruised in his singles match 6-1,6-2 over EW's Stefan Farrar
On Sunday in singles, Quiroz will face Stanford's Denis Lin, deLaubenfels takes on Sacramento State's Oliver Anderson, and MacNeil faces Portland's Michael Hukwo.
