FRESNO, Calif. - Following an outstanding freshman campaign, Fresno State sophomore Aaron Judge was recognized by College Baseball Insider on Monday as a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American.
This is the second national honor for the Linden, Calif. native, who was also named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper at the end of the 2011 season.
"Aaron has progressed well in the past 16 months here at Fresno State," said head coach Mike Batesole. "He is a player with special character and aptitude for the game. We expect him to get better and better."
Judge, a 6-7, 255-pound outfielder, led all Bulldog starters in 2011 with a .358 batting average. He was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and received first-team All-WAC honors.
"It feels good to be named All-American, but it's all about the team," said Judge. "We had a really good team last year and I was put in a place to be successful."
After playing in 55 games, with 49 starts, Judge scored 38 runs and had 67 hits including 12 doubles, one triple and two home runs. He knocked in 30 RBI, went 11-for-12 in stolen bases and was walked 25 times.
Judge will move to center field and is expected to bat in the three spot this coming season. He was also a Preseason All-WAC selection.
Fresno State opens the 2012 season at home Friday against Butler on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. Fans can purchase season and single-game tickets online or by calling the Bulldog Ticket Office at 559-278-3647.
