Fresno State Game Notes
RIVAL HISTORY IN A NUTSHELL
Pepperdine University is located in Malibu, Calif. The Waves are members of the West Coast Conference and are led by head coach Steve Rodriguez in his eighth year with the program. A Pepperdine grad, Rodriguez has a 263-206 career record. The programs have been competing since 1951. The 'Dogs lead the series 38-23 all-time. Batesole is 5-5 against the Waves after the 'Dogs swept the 2011 series 3-0. Last year, Fresno State outscored the Waves 22-9.
SCORING BIG
Fresno State has outscored opponents 35-18 after five games this season. The gap can be attributed to the Bulldogs' outstanding defense, which averages at least one double play per game and a pitching staff that has struck out 51 batters and pitched two shutouts.
LOOK WHO'S SWINGING THE BIG BAT
Junior Daniel Moultrie had a huge weekend on the diamond for the Bulldogs. The Clovis West grad is on a five-game hit streak, notching multiple hits in three consecutive games. He had the best offensive game of his career against Butler (Feb. 18) when he tied or set new career-highs in hits, doubles, total bases and stolen bases.
VALLEY PRIDE
Four Bulldog starters hail from Fresno County: Daniel Moultrie, Chris Mariscal, Jordan Luplow and Jordan Brink. Combined, they account for 23 hits, 13 runs, seven RBI, three doubles and a triple.
