Bulldogs Defeat Dons, 5-2

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 33 Fresno State beat San Francisco, 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs earned the doubles point quickly with wins from all of the Bulldog teams.
No. 1 doubles team Remi Boutillier and Francis Alcantara earned the first point for the `Dogs against San Francisco's Jonathon Knowlman and William Schumacher, 8-2. The No. 2 doubles duo, Zachary Leslie and Sai Kartik Nakireddi clinched the point for the Bulldogs shortly after, beating Richard Bucalem and Bernardo Saraiva, 8-1. Seniors Jean-Charles Diame and David Ayoun finished up doubles play with a victory over Germain Bhri and Jacob Hartwig, 8-3, at No. 3.
In singles, the `Dogs clinched the win in the first three matches as the beautiful day turned chilly. No. 44 Alcantara was the first defeat his opponent at No. 2 singles with his victory over Bahri, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Leslie bested the Dons' Johan Samuelsson, 6-3, 6-1. No. 14 Boutillier earned the Bulldog win at No. 1 singles when he defeated Schumacher, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
At No. 4 singles, Ayoun beat Saraiva, 7-6, 6-4, for the last Bulldog win of the night. In a back-and-forth battle at No. 5 singles, freshman Reid DeLaubenfels fell to SF's Bucalem in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, (11-9). Freshman Nakireddi fought hard for the `Dogs at No. 6 but was unable to pull out a win against Hartwig, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
The `Dogs take a well deserved break for the weekend before they travel to No. 9 Stanford next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
