Uhalde Honored for Stanford Title
Sophomore Christine Uhalde was awarded both the WAC Golfer of the Week and Bulldog Student-Athlete of the week for her performance at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Uhalde tied for the individual title at the tournament hosted by Stanford, her first medalist honor of her collegiate career. She fired a 1-under, 70 during the first round, marking both her lowest round of her career and the only under-par performance on the day. Uhalde finished the two-round tournament at 3-over par (70-75--145). This is the first time a Fresno State women's golfer has claimed a tournament title since Hali Coppin won the 2010 WAC Championship.
An Accomplished Freshman
Since the women's golf team graduated one player from last year's squad, they only feature one new recruit this season, but it is a recruit with quite a résumé. Madchen Ly, a native of Clovis, Calif., comes to Fresno State after winning back-to-back CIF Valley Championships during her junior and senior years at Clovis High School. In only her second collegiate tournament, Ly tied for second place at the Rose City Intercollegiate and follwed that with a fourth place finish at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate.
