FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State baseball team is heading to the California coastline for a Tuesday night contest at Cal Poly at 6 p.m. in Baggett Stadium.
The Bulldogs (15-19) have a chance to build some momentum before returning to Western Athletic Conference action at Nevada on April 27 and bounce back from a tough three-week stretch.
After playing at Cal Poly on Tuesday, Fresno State hosts CSU Bakersfield on Saturday and then completes the home-and-home series with the Mustangs next Tuesday, April 24.
Over the past week, senior second baseman Patrick Hutcheson caught fire at the plate with a 6-for-10 mark and sports a three-game hitting streak heading into tonight's non-conference game.
Hutcheson also has posted two hits in three of the past four games and now holds a team-best .308 batting average through the first 34 games of the season.
Meanwhile, Cal Poly (21-13) has won eight of its last 11 games, including a three-game sweep of then -No. 29 Irvine, but dropped two of three last week at Cal State Northridge.
The 'Dogs and Mustangs have met 174 times on the baseball field since the series began when teams were California College Athletic Association members back in 1945.
Fresno State owns a 111-63 all-time advantage over Cal Poly.
CP's Jimmy Allen (.353) and Mike Miller (.347) headline a potent offense that is hitting .276 as a team this year.
There will be no radio coverage of the midweek match-up, but live statistics can be viewed at www.GoBulldogs.com on Gametracker.
