FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresh off delivering its most exhilarating comeback victory this season in a come-from-behind road win at Cal Poly, the Fresno State baseball team returns home to wrap up its season series with CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs and Roadrunners are meeting for the fourth time this year with the home team winning each of the previous three meetings, which gives Fresno State a 2-1 edge over CSUB so far this season.
Saturday night's contest is a make-up game from a March rained out match-up between the two schools that are separated by less than 120 miles.
Fresno State (16-19) handed head coach Mike Batesole his 600th career victory in thrilling fashion on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs faced a two-run ninth inning deficit and responded by scoring four runs to lock up the road win over the Mustangs.
Sophomore outfielder Aaron Judge, who earned Freshman All-American honors for the 'Dogs last season, produced a solid effort at the plate against Cal Poly. Judge went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and scored the tying run in the successful ninth-inning rally. The effort upped his season average to team-leading .314.
Also of note from the Tuesday night road victory, Bulldog catcher Austin Wynns crossed home plate twice and Taylor Garrison pitched a scoreless frame for his eighth save of the season.
The win over Cal Poly opened a three-game non-conference stretch for the 'Dogs before returning to WAC play next Friday, April 27 at Nevada.
Meanwhile, Bakersfield is 17-18 on the season, but has struggled away from home with a 4-12 mark. The `Runners are led by Oscar Sanay (.343/12 RBI) and Frank Martinez (.311/3 home runs) at the plate and feature seven pitchers with sub-4.00 earned run averages.
After the make-up date with CSUB, Fresno State will face Cal Poly again, but this time at Beiden Field on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
