FRESNO, Calif. - Former Fresno State football players Bryce Harris and Logan Harrell have signed free agents contracts to play in the National Football League.
Harris, a 6-6, 300-pound tackle, signed with the Atlanta Falcons and will report to its minicamp that runs May 11-13. Harrell, a 6-2, 275-pound defensive tackle, signed with the San Diego Chargers and he also reports for minicamp on May 11.
The two former Bulldogs join Devon Wylie, who was drafted in the fourth round by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2012 draft last Saturday, as the newest Fresno State alum in the NFL.
Harrell came to Fresno State in 2008 out of Santa Margarita High School and played in 51 games for the Bulldogs, making 28 career starts at defensive tackle. He was a two-time first-team All-WAC selection and was also named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week twice in his career.
In four seasons at Fresno State, Harrell had 148 tackles, 34.5 tackles for a loss and 18.5 sacks, which is tied for the eighth-most in school history. As a junior in 2010, he ranked 10th in the NCAA with 10.5 sacks and as a senior, a year in which he tied for second on the team with 71 tackles, he ranked 16th nationally with 17.0 tackles for a loss.
Harris was an ironmen for the Bulldogs and he also was a two-time All-WAC player, drawing second-team accolades as a junior and first team honors as a senior. Harris started in 39-straight games at left tackle over the final three seasons of his career.
The computer engineering major was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District 8 first team and he was a three-time Academic All-WAC selection.
Harris led the Fresno State offensive line that in 2009 opened holes for Ryan Mathews, the NCAA rushing leader and No. 12 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Then the past two years he blocked for running back Robbie Rouse, helping Rouse rush for 2,678 yards over the 2010-11 seasons. That is the most rushing yardage gained by a single running back at Fresno State in consecutive seasons.
The duo join a long list of former Fresno State football players to reach the NFL, a list that included 24 former Bulldogs on the rosters of NFL teams during the 2011 season.
