Fresno State 2012 Soccer Schedule
FRESNO,Calif. ---Fresno State head soccer coach Brian Zwaschka has announced the 2012 schedule that features seven 2011 NCAA Tournament teams, four of which finished the season ranked in the Top 25. In their first year in the Mountain West, the Bulldogs will host four conference opponents and will go on the road to face three.
"Our 2012 schedule again represents an exceptional set of opponents chosen from some of the most well-respected soccer conferences in the nation," Zwaschka said. "Our non-conference segment has us pitting ourselves against a number of perennial regional and national contenders in preparation for our inaugural Mountain West season."
The Bulldogs' first test will be on the road against defending National Champion Stanford in an exhibition game on Aug. 10. Fresno State will officially open the regular season with two games on the road at UC Davis and San Francisco.
The home opener will come against UCLA on Aug. 24 at 7p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. The 'Dogs will hit the road again to face CSUN on Aug 26 and then compete in the UW Tournament on Aug 31 and Sept 2 against Portland and Washington.
After a short stop at home against UC Riverside on Sept 7,Fresno State will face back to back games on the road once again against a pair of Big XII opponents in Texas and Oklahoma State in mid-September.
"'Anybody, anytime, anywhere!' is our Bulldog motto," Zwaschka noted. "I trust our team and staff to prepare properly for what we're about to face. Our returners finished last season knowing we were playing very well, but at the same time absolutely unsatisfied with not advancing further. Throwing our group of incomers and returners straight into the most difficult overall schedule we've faced is going to demand the most of our competitive culture that we've been working so hard to build."
The `Dogs will wrap up September before starting conference play with home games versus CSU Bakersfield on Sept 21 and Cal Poly on Sept 23and a trip to Santa Clara on Sept. 27.
Play in the Mountain West will begin with a home matchup with Air Force on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. Fresno State will travel to Wyoming on October 6, before returning home for a two game stand against New Mexico on Oct 12 and San Diego State on Oct 14. Conference action will continue with games at Boise State and Nevada in mid-October. The Bulldogs will host the last regular season game of the year at Bulldog Stadium against UNLV on Oct. 27.
Fresno State will then travel down to San Diego State, for its first shot at winning a Mountain West Conference tournament title which will begin on Oct. 31 and conclude with the MW Championship Game on Nov. 4.
"We all believe we have another level we've not even tapped yet, and, with this schedule, we're all looking forward to testing and realizing that," Zwaschka said. "Everyone will have to contribute every day to continue our ascent. Just reading our schedule speaks volumes to our ambitions. It's a very exciting time!"
