Tennis Picks up Ranked Wins at ITA Northwest Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. - On Saturday, the Bulldog women's tennis team went 6-for-7 in the singles consolation round and 1-for-2 in doubles on day-two of the ITA Northwest Regional at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
After a successful first day at the ITA Northwest Regionals, seniors Aishwarya Agrawal and Tanya Murtagh both found success with wins over San Jose State and the University of San Francisco. Juniors Sophie Watts, Sofya Malysheva and Anneka Watts also won their respective singles matches on Saturday against the University of San Francisco, Gonzaga and Sacramento State in the singles consolation round of 128.
"The team is playing some of the toughest competition in the country and persevering," head coach Ryan Stotland said. "It's great to see some of the girls pick up such great wins today and we will try to build on all of our success for tomorrow."
The `Dogs concluded the second day of the tournament with two ranked wins including victories over San Francisco and Cal.
Junior Sophie Watts recorded a win over No. 110 Thyra Taune of San Francisco (5-7, 6-4, 1-0(8). Rana Sherif Ahmed continued singles play in a round of 32 with a victory over the No.6 seed, Denise Starr of Cal (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) who was ranked No. 25 in the preseason singles poll.
Fresno State will be back on the court Sunday, Oct. 12 for the final day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional hosted by Stanford University.
