LOGAN, Utah - The Fresno State women's soccer team was topped 2-1 by the Aggies on Sunday at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Field in Logan, Utah.
Utah State ended its four-game home stand and homecoming weekend with an overtime win, leaving Fresno State with an overall record of 3-12-0 and 2-4 in Mountain West play.
"Despite the result, we played a very formidable game against one of the top teams in the conference and did everything right to give them quite a scare on their home turf," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "They got back into it with an individual moment of brilliance and deserve credit for that."
At the end of the first half Fresno State and Utah remained scoreless until senior Sysco Student-Athlete of the Week, Jaycee Bingham scored the first goal of the game for the `Dogs 19 minutes into the second half.
With six minutes left on the clock, Aggie forward Jessica Brooksby sent the match into overtime with an unassisted shot that found the back of the net. Utah State went on to claim the overtime win with an own goal in the 97th minute.
Mountain West Player of the Week Domenique Banta made her eighth start in the box for the Bulldogs and recorded five saves during the 97 minute matchup with the Aggies.
"The own goal in overtime was our second heartbreaker of the weekend," Zwaschka added. "I had full commitment from the players on the play and would only be disappointed if they were not willing to try to take responsibility for making big plays. It was a piece of bad misfortune and we will shake it off. We are happy to be back home for next weekend's matches and I am certain my team will be ready to play. The heart and the fire to finish what we started is there. We are looking forward to next weekend and playing in front of our families, friends and fans."
