Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team looks to continue its elevated level of play this week, at the 2014 Hoosier Fall Invitational in Noblesville, Ind. on Oct. 17-19. Action is set to tee off from Purgatory Golf Club as the `Dogs visit Indiana's Invitational for the first time.
"We're going there to win", said head coach Emily Milberger. "It's going to be a good event and it will be fun to see some Midwest teams. I think that we have a ton of momentum and energy and everyone is playing some good golf. So we are headed out there to go get another title."
The `Dogs built momentum and a positive result last week at the Fresno State Classic, leading the pack as the frontrunner after each round. Fresno State secured its second consecutive home tournament win dating back to March 2014 with a 290 on the final day; its lowest single-round score of the season. The Bulldogs won their tournament with an 883 team score (+19) after improving each day, firing a 297 in round one and a 296 in the second.
The `Dogs were led by Madchen Ly, Hannah Sodersten and Guðrún Brá Björgvinsdóttir individually, who all finished atop the leaderboard at the Fresno State Classic. Ly notched her first career collegiate win and finished with a 54-hole score of 217 (+1). Sodersten was a close second at 218 (+2), while Björgvinsdóttir finished in third with a score of 221 (+5).
Action from the Hoosier Fall Invitational begins Friday with one round of stroke play that will determine seeding for match play that will carry out the remainder of the Invite. Saturday will present two rounds of play match play before the tournament wraps up Sunday morning with the third round of match play and fourth overall for the weekend.
Seeding for the match play portion will model the President's Cup. The better seeded team - determined through the 18-hole stroke-play portion of the championship - will have the first choice of putting a player on the board for Match No. 1. The opposing team (Team 2) will then name its player for Match No. 1. Team 2 will then name its player for Match No. 2 and Team 1 will name its player for Match No. 2.
Following the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Fresno State will return to action Oct. 26-28 with the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev.
"Be Bold!" - Follow your `Dogs to Vegas for their last tournament of the fall season.
