Palo Alto, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team is set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship tournament this weekend beginning on Friday, Oct. 17. For the first time in four years, the Taube Tennis Stadium will serve as the 2014 Northwest host site.
After competing in four tournaments this fall, the Bulldogs look forward to the five-day tournament hosted by Stanford University.
"We're really looking forward to competing in the Northwest Regional this weekend," head coach Evan Austin said. "The guys have put in a ton of work on and off the court so it will be good to see where we stack up against some of the nations top teams"
The ITA's Northwest region is comprised of 15 schools including: Fresno State, Stanford, California, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, University of San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Davis and Washington.
Fresno State will be sending Adam Glynn, Youssef Hassan, Jakob Keppelmann, Eric Komati, Euan McIntosh and senior Sai Kartik Nakireddi.
The tournament kicks off on Friday with the first two rounds of singles. McIntosh is slated to a 10 a.m. start time with the No. 9 seed, Ilya Osintev of Santa Clara and Glynn will take on Roy Brandys representing Sacramento State at 12:30 p.m. The first round of doubles play will also be hosted on Friday as Hassan and Komati will compete against Gonzaga beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Saturday's action will begin at 9 a.m. with two more rounds on both sides and the quarterfinal round set for Sunday. The semifinals for singles and doubles are contested for Monday and the tournament will conclud on Tuesday with the championship round.
