Tennis Starts Weekend off Strong

Palo Alto, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team completed day-one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship tournament on Friday, Oct. 17 at the Taube Tennis Stadium.
Representing Fresno State at the ITA Regional Championships is Adam Glynn, Youssef Hassan, Jakob Keppelmann, Eric Komati, Euan McIntosh and senior Sai Kartik Nakireddi.
"Today was a great day for our team and I feel we made a very big statement about where this program is headed," head coach Evan Austin said. "To go 11-3 on day one of competition and put 4 players into the round of 32 is a fantastic effort. We have more big opportunities to pick up wins tomorrow so we'll need to rest and be ready to fight hard again in the morning."
The tournament kicked off on Friday with the first two rounds of singles and the first slate of doubles play. The `Dogs went 5-for-6 in the open singles round of 128 and advanced in singles going 3-for-4 in the round of 64. Freshmen Hassan and Glynn and sophomore McIntosh all recorded victories in Friday's final singles round.
In doubles play, Fresno State found defeats over Stanford and Gonzaga going 3-for-4 in a round of 64.
Saturday's action will begin at 9 a.m. with two more rounds on both sides and the quarterfinal round set for Sunday. The semifinals for singles and doubles are contested for Monday and the tournament will conclude on Tuesday with the championship round.
