FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the University of Wyoming Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. In their fourth meeting, the `Dogs now hold a 2-1-1 series record over the Cowgirls.
In an aggressive matchup with Wyoming, freshman Domenique Banta made several big plays in the box for Fresno State and kept the Cowgirls to one goal in each half and recording a total of five saves on the night.
Senior Jaycee Bingham and sophomore Ariana Holmes showed determination by totaling nine shots of the 15 taken against Wyoming in Friday night's matchup.
"We created the chances and just didn't finish it and credit to Wyoming for putting up a brick wall in front of their goal because it served them and got them a shutout," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "We just didn't find a win but we created tons of chances so of course it's disappointing. To get counter attacked so late kind of broke out back but were going to concentrate Sunday and that's the next step."
Cowgirl Kaitlyn Lomsnes led Wyoming with six of the nine shots and both goals scored against the `Dogs. Lomsnes scored first in the 10th minute of the game, giving the cowgirls a 1-0 lead at the start of the second half. The freshman forward struck again in the second half with an unassisted goal past Banta in the 87th minute, giving the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead with three minutes left on the clock.
