FRESNO, Calif. - After scoring the `Dogs first hat trick of the season in Sunday's victory over Colorado State, freshman forward Ashari Hines tallied two weekly accolades on Monday morning.
The Sacramento, Calif. native was named the Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Bulldog Sysco Student-Athlete of the Week.
Hines helped the `Dogs continue its second straight game against Colorado State with a 4-2 defeat in Sunday's Kick for a Cure match at Bulldog Stadium. The forward netted three consecutive goals in the 30th, 72nd and 81st minutes to help Fresno State (4-13-0, 3-5 MW) come back from a 2-0 deficit.
Aside from Hines's performance on Sunday, only one other hat trick has been accomplished in Mountain West play this season in which the University of New Mexico's Ruth Bruciaga recorded the first in the Lobos 4-1 defeat over New Mexico State.
Hines is the only Fresno State player with a hat trick since the Bulldogs joined the Mountain West in 2012.
"I couldn't be more thrilled for her to see that come into fruition," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "Not only her goals, but the way she was passing the ball and helping other people become dangerous, was just as much a testament to how far she's come. Getting a hat trick as a senior is difficult but never mind getting one as a freshman, and it couldn't have been any more important in this game."
In her 13 games this season, she leads the Bulldog freshmen class with three goals (1 game-winning), eight shots, six points, and four shots on goal.
This week, Fresno State will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 24 to challenge Air Force (6-8-1) in Colorado Springs, Colo. followed by a slated 1 p.m. matchup with Colorado College (9-4-3) at Bulldog Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 26.
The `Dogs will end its regular season at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Oct. 31 against the San Jose Spartans. The senior class will be honored before the game as it will be the last home game of the season.
