`Dogs Complete Day-One of Aggie Invite

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team concluded day-one of the 2014 Aggie Invitational on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis, Calif.
Representing the Bulldogs is Euan McIntosh, Youssef Hassan, Alexandros Georgios Vakouftsis and Jakob Keppelmann who battled in two flights of singles and a pair of doubles flights during Friday's play at UC Davis.
"Youssef and Euan came out fired up in doubles and had a good win over a strong Nevada team," assistant coach James McKie said. "Youssef also played a couple of really solid singles matches which I was impressed with as it was his first college tournament."
In singles play, the `Dogs recorded two wins in the six matches played. Competing in Flight A, Hassan defeated Roy Brandys of Sacramento State (6-4, 6-3) and in singles Flight B, Vakouftis came out on top of Saint Mary's Will Martin (7-5, 6-4).
Fresno State split in doubles play. Hassan and McIntosh paired together to defeat Nevada (8-2) and Keppelmann paired with Vakouftis in a 8-6 loss to the Aggies.
"Overall, I think we just need to work on our mental toughness on the match court," McKie said. "A lot of guys need loads of matches this fall to prepare for the spring. I have absolutely no doubt we will be ready, we just need to really work on being mentally tough in close situations because at the end of the day if we want to meet our goal of winning this conference and advancing to the NCAA tournament, that's what it's going to come down to."
The `Dogs will be back in action tomorrow at 8:30 as Hassan and McIntosh take on UC Davis in Doubles Flight A.
