`Dogs Record First Conference Win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team defeated UNLV in Friday nights matchup at the Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas, Nev.
First to score was Fresno State due to an own goal by UNLV giving the `Dogs the lead in the 20th minute of the first half. The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead, leaving the Rebels scoreless heading into the second half.
Fresno State's defense managed to keep the Rebels scoreless in the second half of the matchup and concluded the game with a 1-0 win for the Bulldogs.
"We put together 90 minutes of unselfish play tonight," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "We are thrilled with our first conference win and our first shutout. They were a very good team and were quite dangerous throughout the match, but our resolve showed tonight and I am very proud of everyone."
Domenique Banta made her sixth start of the 2014 season in the goal and recorded three saves against the Rebels in Friday's matchup. The freshman goal keeper has played a total of 514 minutes guarding the net for the Bulldogs.
The `Dogs had six total shots compared to UNLV's 11 and both the Bulldogs and Rebels recorded four shots on goal. Leading in shots was senior Jaycee Bingham with three, two being on goal.
Up next, the Bulldogs are slated to a matchup with Nevada on Sunday, Oct. 5 in Reno, Nev. Sunday's game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Mackay Stadium.
At the conclusion of Friday's play, Fresno State holds a 2-10-0 overall record and will take on the Nevada Wolf Pack who is 4-7-1 in the 2014 season. The Bulldogs and Wolf Pack both stand 1-2 in Mountain West Conference play.
"Now we have to concentrate on Sunday and start our preparation by remembering what went into earning tonight's victory," Zwaschka adds.
