Annual Bulldog Classic Underway

FRESNO, Calif. -The Fresno State women's tennis team went 3-for-5 in doubles and 3-for-5 in singles play on Friday at the 15th annual Bulldog Classic. The `Dogs took the court at 9 a.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on the campus of Fresno State.
On day one, Aishwarya Agrawal, Rana Sherif Ahmed, Sofya Malysheva, Tanya Murtagh, Anne Susdorf and Anneka Watts represented Fresno State on their home court. The six-team tournament features players from Fresno State, University of Oregon, Pacific, Portland State, Cal Poly and Cal State Stanislaus.
In the first round of Flight A Doubles, Malysheva and Susdorf beat Cal State Stanislaus, 8-5. Ahmed teamed up with Anneka Watts to record an 8-3 victory over Cal Poly advancing them to the quarterfinal round where the duo defeated Pacific, 8-6.
The `Dogs continued day one with the first round of singles play on Friday afternoon. In Flight B, junior Anneka Watts recorded the first singles victory for Fresno State with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Portland State. Agrawal defeated Portland's Siena Peri in the first round of singles Flight A .
Day-two will kick off with the semifinal round of Flight A doubles where Ahmed and Watts will take on the University of Oregon and Agrawal and Murtagh will face Cal Poly in the consolation round of Flight A doubles at 9 a.m. The action will continue with the semifinal round of Flight A, the quarterfinal round of Flight C singles, and Flight A singles consolation at 10:30 a.m. The quarterfinal round of Flight C singles and Flight B singles consolation is set to begin at noon and the semifinal round of Flight B singles is slated for 1 p.m.
Saturday's matches will be played at the Sierra Racquet Club - site of the 2014 Mountain West Championships. On Sunday, Nov. 2 the red wave can catch the `Dogs back in action on their home court at the Spalding G. Wathens Tennis Center.
Coming off of a 2013-14 Mountain West Championship, the women's tennis team will be presented with their championship rings during Saturday's 7:45 p.m. home football game against the Wyoming Cowboys. The team will take the field at the conclusion of the third quarter to be recognized for their outstanding performance last season.
