FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team concluded its third tournament of the season at the 2014 UC Davis Fall Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The `Dogs competed at the Marya Welch Tennis Center where they split in singles consolation play and dominated both doubles matches on Sunday morning.
"I am proud of the guys for finishing the tournament strong," assistant coach James McKie said. "Jakob and Alex came out right from the start and beat a solid Pacific doubles team. It was also good to see Youssef and Euan beat two former blue chip American recruits from Stanford. I think the guys came out with a sense of urgency today and the results showed that."
Sophomore Euan McIntosh and freshman Youssef Hassan led the `Dogs with two out of four singles wins and two of three defeats in doubles play over the weekend.
On Sunday, McIntosh won 7-5, 6-3 over Stanford's Trey Strobel and Hassan defeated Brandon Sutter of Stanford (6-2, 7-6). The pair of newcomers recorded their second win in the three-day tournament in Davis, Calif. by defeating Saint Mary's Matthew Campana and Wil Martin in doubles consolation.
Also representing the Bulldogs in doubles play, Alexandros Georgios Vakouftis and Jakob Keppelmann concluded the weekend with a victory over Lance Ngo and Ashwin Sharma of Pacific.
The `Dogs will spend the upcoming week preparing for the UCSB Fall Classic held in Santa Barbara, Calif. beginning on Friday, Oct. 10.
