Banta Earns Mountain West Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State freshman Domenique Banta was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.
The freshman goalkeeper from Meridian, Idaho stopped six shots over the weekend, leading the Bulldogs to a pair of conference wins over UNLV and Nevada and improving the `Dogs record to 3-10-0, 2-2 MW.
With three saves against UNLV on Friday, Banta helped Fresno State record its first shut out of the year over the Rebels (1-0). Banta also notched another three saves in the 102 minutes spent in the box on Sunday as the `Dogs rallied past Nevada 3-2 in double-overtime to recorded their second consecutive conference win.
As a newcomer to the 2014 squad, Banta has made seven starts guarding the net for Fresno State and has recorded a total of 29 saves in the 617 minutes played this season.
This is the first time the Bulldogs have earned a MW weekly award in the 2014 season as well as Banta's first career Mountain West weekly accolade.
After earning a pair of road wins, the `Dogs continue conference play on the road to face Boise State on Friday, Oct. 10 followed by Utah State on Sunday, Oct. 12.
