FRESNO, Calif. ---The Fresno State men's basketball team received a big commitment this week from combo forward Nate Grimes with the signing of a valid National Letter of Intent to join the Bulldogs' program starting in the 2015-16 academic year.
Fresno State, who will open the 2014-15 season on Friday at Pepperdine, has infused a talented group individuals expected to be contenders in the Mountain West and Grimes is the latest addition for the future.
Grimes - the only signee of head coach Rodney Terry's class during the early signing period - is a 6-foot-8 forward that can also play out on the wing. His size and athleticism are in line with the type of player that Terry has coveted for his arsenal.
"Nate is a guy that has a very high ceiling as a young player and is a high-level talent," Terry said. "He's extremely versatile and can fill a stat sheet in a lot of ways. Almost every Mountain West school offered him and we're very happy that he decided to be a Bulldog."
With the signing of Grimes, Fresno State currently has one open scholarship left for the 2015-16 academic year and Terry intends to wait until the spring signing period before making a decision on who will fill that position.
Grimes, a native of Las Vegas and currently playing his senior season at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C., will have four years of eligibility as a high school recruit. He was nationally ranked in the Top 150 recruits by Rivals.com.
