'Dogs Make Strong Debut in December

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Fresno State track and field team wrapped up its first indoor meet of the season at the Air Force Holiday Open on Friday afternoon at the Cadet Field House on the Air Force Academy campus. The `Dogs came away with an individual victory and broke four personal records.
Friday afternoon was highlighted by a win from Je'Nia Sears in the long jump. The senior opened her season with a leap of 6.19 meters. The runner up in the event, Bulldog senior Ashley Hatcher jumped a personal best mark of 5.74 meters. Hatcher also competed in the 60 meter hurdles, where she placed sixth with a time of 9.66, her second personal best of the day.
Junior Kyra Johnson placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.09, posting the third personal best time for the `Dogs Friday. Senior teammate Karissa Bell took the third spot in the pole vault soaring over the bar at 3.65 meters beating her Bulldog career best of 3.62 meters, marking the final personal best of the evening for the `Dogs. Junior Caroline Weaver also competed in the pole vault Friday, clearing 3.20 meters to place eighth.
The Bulldog newcomers left their mark in the field events Friday afternoon. Maciah Murray leaped into second place clearing the 1.65 meter bar in the high jump. Kayla Hopkins placed third in the shot put (12.14m) and fourth in weight throw (15.51m). Kylie Coleman threw 14.35 meters in the weight throw, placing sixth.
The Bulldogs will train through the rest of the month of December and most of January to prepare for the Lobo Collegiate Open (Jan. 24) at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
