FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State soccer team fell 3-0 in Friday night's matchup against Cal State Fullerton at Bulldog Stadium. The `Dogs now hold a 1-6 overall record as they prepare for next week's matchup with Cal Poly (2-4).
After a scoreless first half, the Titans came back to score two goals in the second half and only minutes apart. With three saves on the night, goal keeper Domenique Banta allowed the first goal past in the 67th minute from a corner kick shot assisted by Brianna Chapman and netted by Morgan Batcheller. The second goal came only minutes later by midfielder Ali White, followed by a penalty kick by Cal State Fullerton gave the Titans a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
"Obviously we're really disappointed," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "We felt like the lessons that we've been learning up to now were meant to continue to build off each other and improve and today we absolutely took a step backwards. Everyone is disappointed but we have no one to blame but ourselves so it's only us that can pick up the pieces."
Fresno State was held to six shots during the match and only one shot on goal whereas Fullerton recorded 13 shots, 6 on goal but the Bulldogs limited the Titans to three goals with three assists.
The `Dogs hold a 1-2 record at home after a home opener victory over Eastern Washington followed by a shutout by Gonzaga. Fresno State will return home Sunday, Sept. 21 following next weekend's game against Cal Poly. The Bulldogs will face the Mustangs at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. at 5 p.m.
The Bulldogs have a total of two matches left until conference play starts on Friday, Sept. 26 where the `Dogs will host New Mexico followed by San Diego State on Sunday, Sept. 28.
