FRESNO, Calif. - Men's tennis head coach Evan Austin released the `Dogs spring 2015 schedule Thursday, Sept. 18.
"We're extremely excited about the challenges the 2015 spring schedule presents," Austin said. "We'll have a number of very challenging nonconference matches which should really prepare us to peak late in the season for conference matches and the Mountain West Championship Tournament. Our guys are very hungry to compete for a MW championship in late April and we know the preparation for that begins now."
The Bulldogs opened the fall play last weekend at the Napa Invitational where they dominated in three of the six doubles matches played and split singles with six wins out of 12 games. The `Dogs will travel to Tulsa, Okla. next week for the nine-day ITA All-American Tournament beginning on Sept. 27.
Fresno State is set to compete in five more individual tournaments this fall, concluding the season in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. for the USTA/ITS Indoor Collegiate Championships, Nov. 6-9.
Spring match play will begin in the middle of January on the road, starting with Cal Poly and St. Mary's in San Luis Obispo Jan. 16-17.
The `Dogs spring home opener will take place on Feb. 7 at the Wathen Tennis Center as they take on Sonoma State at 10 a.m. followed by Holy Names at 2 p.m. In addition to its home opener, Fresno State is set to host five additional nonconference matches during the spring semester against Loyola Marymount (Feb.19), UW Green Bay (March 17), Arizona and Navy (March 19) and UC Santa Barbara (April 13).
Mountain West play will begin on March 10 for the Bulldogs in a home match up against Utah State. Conference will continue with New Mexico in Albuguerque, N.M. on March 27, Air Force March 29 at home and traveling to San Diego State (April 2) and the University of Las Vegas on April 4.
The `Dogs are slated for a two match home stand to conclude conference play with Boise State (April 12) and Nevada (April 18).
Other nonconference teams Fresno State will face in February include the University of Pacific, Santa Clara, UC Irvine and concluding the month with a tournament in Stockton. In March, the Bulldogs will also travel to New Orleans, L.A. to face Tulane and USC Upstate and finally taking on Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. on April 7.
To conclude the 2015 season, Fresno State will make a second appearance in Albuquerque, N.M. for the Mountain West Championships on April 23-26.
Returning Bulldogs include senior Sai Kartik Nakireddi, junior Nikolas Papic and sophomores Alexandros Georgios Vakouftsis and Eric Komati. Added to the roster this year is sophomore transfer from Drake University, Euan McIntosh as well as freshmen Adam Glynn, Youssef Hassan and Jakob Keppelmann.
