FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State football team opens up the spring semester this week with the start of classes. Spring scheduling and the NFL Playoffs are the topics of this section of the Bulldog football notebook.
A number of former Bulldogs have shined in the NFL playoffs this winter. In all six former Bulldogs - Davante Adams (Green Bay), Isaiah Burse (Denver), Chris Carter (Cincinnati), Tyler Clutts (Dallas), Ben Jacobs (Carolina) and Ryan Wendell (New England) - reached the postseason with their respective teams. Two of those Bulldogs are still alive with Adams and Wendell helping lead their teams to the AFC and NFC Championship games.
Adams and Clutts faced off against each other on Sunday, and both had big games. Adams caught seven passes for 117 yards and had one 46-yard touchdown catch - his first career postseason TD. Clutts, a fullback, also caught his first career touchdown pass, a one-yard score in the first quarter. He had a big game opening up holes for running back DeMarco Murray, who had 123 yards rushing and one touchdown.
The Bulldogs will return for the spring semester when classes start on Thursday, Jan. 15. The team will have voluntary training sessions the first week back in classes to let the student-athletes get settled in before starting their winter training sessions with strength and conditioning coach Joey Boese on Thursday, Jan. 22.
