FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team will open up its 2015 spring season this weekend in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The Bulldogs compete against Cal Poly at 1 p.m., on Friday before facing Saint Mary's on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Cal Poly finished the 2014 season with a 14-9 record, while Saint Mary's was 8-13. The 'Dogs were 13-10 and 3-4 in the Mountain West.
Fresno State enters the spring returning four players from last year's team, which includes senior Sai Kartik Nakireddi, junior Nikolas Papic and sophomores Alexandros Georgios and Eric Komati. Nakireddi primarily competed in the team's No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions in 2014 while Papic was slotted anywhere from No. 2 to No. 5. Komati played in the No. 3 spot through No. 5 and Georgios played at No. 5 and No. 6.
The group was joined in the fall by freshman Jokob Keppelmann, Adam Glynn, Youssef Hassan and sophomore transfer Euan McIntosh. Third-year head coach Evan Austin also brought in a pair of talented newcomers this semester in junior Piercarlo Bianciardi from Italy and freshman Joshua Zeoli from Switzerland to help bolster his roster.
Following this weekend, the Bulldogs will be off until they open their home schedule Feb. 7.
