FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State catcher Taylor Ward was honored as a second team preseason All-American by Perfect Game on Friday, his second All-American selection of the 2015 preseason.
The heralded product of Oviedo, Fla. enters his junior season following a sophomore campaign that wrapped up with a Second Team All-Mountain West selection, and later an invite to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
As a sophomore, Ward was one of three players to start in all 57 games for the Bulldogs, including 38 at catcher and 19 as the designated hitter. For the season, he hit .320, scored 29 runs on 70 hits, including eight doubles and six home runs. Ward also accounted for 41 RBIs.
Ward was named to the Collegiate Baseball newspaper Preseason All-American Team in December. The last Fresno State player to receive multiple preseason All-American selections was Aaron Judge in 2013 before he entered his junior season, which tabbed three selections - Baseball America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game. Baseball America and the NCBWA have yet to announce its preseason teams.
