Tonkham Paces 'Dogs on Day 1 of Pacific Invite

STOCKTON, Calif. - Windy conditions on Thursday led to an overwhelming number of high scores on the first day of the Pacific Invitational as players from the 16-team field the Fresno State men's golf team competed alongside posted an average score of 77.11 - at the par 71 Stockton Golf and Country Club. Troix Tonkham led Fresno State with a 4-over 75, he is tied for 22nd among the 88-player field.
Alex Lee fired the second-lowest score for the Bulldogs, a 6-over 77. He is tied for 42nd.
The remainder of the Bulldog contingent posted an 8-over 79, respectively. Among those three players was Trevor Clayton, who saw his streak of five-straight rounds carded in the 60's come to a halt. The junior who owned a 69.92 scoring average entering the first round of the Pacific Invite is tied for 63rd alongside teammates Justin Avery and Cody Riecks.
As a team, Fresno State is in 11th place. The Bulldogs carded a 26-over 310.
The Pacific Invitational continues Friday with round two and will conclude Saturday with the third and final round. Tee times are set to range from 8:30-9:10 a.m. for Fresno State's second round. Live scoring can be followed at Golfstat.com.
