Fresno State to Honor Firefighter Pete Dern

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State Athletics is proud to announce that Fresno firefighter Captain Pete Dern and other local heroes will be honored at Thursday's Bulldog football game against Nevada.
Captain Dern was severely injured when he fell through the roof of a fully involved structure fire. The shocking video of this accident immediately went viral and most viewers thought he would not survive his injuries. If it were not for Captain Dern's determination to live and the heroics of the men and women who put service above self on this day and every day, the outcome would have been very different for Captain Dern.
Fresno State Athletics will be bringing in Captain Dern and many of these local heroes form the Fresno Fire Department, American Ambulance and the Burn Unit at Community Regional Medical Center to Bulldog Stadium to honor them for all they do for this community on a daily basis.
"For Fresno State Athletics to help honor all the heroes who helped Captain Dern be in Bulldog Stadium Thursday night is a tremendous honor for us," Senior Associate AD Paul Ladwig said. "Pete Dern has proven to all of us that through pure determination and love from the community you can preserver the worst situation. Thursday night will be special night for his family and this community."
The on-field recognition will take place during the first and second quarters of the nationally televised game between the Wolf Pack and Bulldogs.
