'Dogs Dominate Day One at Spartan Invite

Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational Results - Day One 
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team dominated the first 36 holes of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Monday, ending the day in first place with two Bulldog golfers tied for the tournament lead - Hannah Sodersten and Guðrún Brá Björgvinsdóttir.
The Bulldogs held firm in first place, moving from the first round to the second, but really seized control in the second round with a tournament low score of 294. With such a solid round, Fresno State (303-294--597) owns a 12-shot lead over second place San Jose State (312-297--609) with 18 holes left to play.
"I am so proud of these ladies," said head coach Emily Milberger. "They played with a lot of patience and grit today on a tough course in some windy conditions. There was a lot of solid golf played today and it is exciting to have so many of our players at the top of the leaderboard."
Out of the 10-team, 54-person field, five Bulldogs are tied for eighth place or better after the first day. On top is Sodersten and Björgvinsdóttir, the Fresno State teammates share a four-over 148 heading into the final round. Sodersten carded a steady 74 (+2) in each round, while Björgvinsdóttir posted a 78 (+6) on the first 18, only to follow with a tournament low 70 (-2) the following round.
"We have a great game plan for this golf course and we are going to stick to it tomorrow as we look to have another strong round," Milberger added.
