'Dogs Clinch Second-Straight Runner-Up Finish

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team finished as the runner-up for a second consecutive tournament, finishing behind the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational host, San Jose State, on Tuesday at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.
The Bulldogs entered Tuesday's final round with a 12-stroke lead on the Spartans after a dominant first 36 holes on Monday. Fresno State carded a 14-over 302, while the Spartans shot even-par 288, to take over the lead and win the tournament title.
"Definitely a disappointing finish today," said head coach Emily Milberger. "We had a challenging round and we had a tough stretch in the middle, but still excited to see five of our players finish in the top 15. We are definitely doing a lot of building and growing and it's exciting to see us in the mix on a consistent basis."
Hannah Sodersten led Fresno State at six-over par (74-74-74=222), she completed the Inkster in fourth place. Madchen Ly (75-75-74=224) improved her third round by one stroke to move up a position on the leaderboard to finish tied for fifth overall, while Gudrun Bra Björgvinsdóttir (78-70-77=225) dropped to seventh after carding a five-over 77.
"Definitely excited to see Hannah and Madchen finish fourth and fifth and be strong leaders in the fore front," Milberger said. "We are also really excited about having a lot of youth in the lineup. They are getting a lot of good experience."
Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Hawai'i for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Oahu, March 10-11.
