ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Fresno State women's indoor track and field is bringing home an eighth place finish from the 2015 Mountain West Championships after the final day of the event on Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The Bulldogs' 4x400 Relay team was the highlight of the day. The team of Kyra Johnson, Njeri Omawahleh, Dezirae Johnson and Kimberley Efonye ran a season-best time of 3.41.71 to finish second. The women were edged out by .11 seconds by UNLV.
Two Fresno State freshman shot put throwers posted lifetime best throws. Tiffany Gilmore recorded a throw of 46 feet, 1.5 inches (14.06m) on her third attempt of the day. Her efforts got her an eighth place finish and the second-highest finish for a freshman in the conference. The third-highest freshman finisher was Kayla Hopkins who finished with a throw of 45'9.25" (13.95m). She also recorded her best throw on the third attempt and it was good for a ninth place finish in the conference.
The Bulldogs now wait to find out which athletes will advance to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and will also begin preparations for the outdoor season. Fresno State kicks off the outdoor season on March 24 with the Fresno State Twilight.
