FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State outdoor track and field teams hit the road for the first time in the 2015 season as they travel south to the 37th Annual Aztec Invitational at the San Diego State Sports Deck on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28.
The Bulldogs will take on a large field of athletes that come from Academy of Art, Air Force, Arkansas State, Brigham Young, Cal St. Los Angeles, Carleton, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, IPFW, Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State, San Diego State, UC Riverside, UC San Diego and USD.
On Tuesday, Fresno State opened up its outdoor season with a great showing at its own Twilight Meet at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis. The Bulldogs won 15 of the 22 events and the men swept the dual meet scoring against Bakersfield and Cal Poly, while the women swept Bakersfield, Cal Poly and San Jose State.
Dezirae Johnson won the 800-meter on Tuesday with a time 2:11.70. Early in the 2015 season, she finds herself at the top of the conference in that event. Johnson will run in the 400 this weekend in San Diego.
Senior Devin Harrison, who won the 100-meter dash on Tuesday in 10.81 seconds, ranks second in the Mountain West in that event. The 2014 outdoor long jump champion will take his first run on the long jump this weekend. Harrison will also compete in the 200-meter and run on the 4x100 relay team.
Competition gets underway on Friday morning in San Diego. Heat sheets, schedules and results can be found here. Live results will be available at www.FlashWest.com.
