Bulldogs Win Pair of Events at Aztec Invitation

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team concluded the second and final day of the Aztec Invitational with outstanding performances on Saturday at San Diego State University.
With the first day of the Aztec Invitational completed, the Bulldogs took the second day by storm with personal bests and top 10 performances in events.
Freshman Shane Atkinson won the men's pole vault, clearing 4.61m while on the women's side Karissa Bell took third at 3.57m.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Kyra Johnson, Nailah Harris-Murillo, Njeri Omawahleh and Dezirae Johnson was the other grouping to win an event Saturday, finishing firstl with a winning time of 3:41.88.
Saturday's meet started off with women's discus and senior thrower Kayley Braucher notching a personal best of 45.81m, which placed her ninth overall in the event. Fellow teammate and 2014 NCAA qualifier for men's discus, Brice Sandri, also finished in top 10 in the men's discus by taking second place with a throw of 54.85m.
Justin Lovingood had a strong performance in the men's triple jump with a jump of 14.70m, which placed the senior third overall and freshmen Savannah Miller took second place in the women's high jump by clearing 1.71m.
Other field performances include Devin Harrison with taking second place with a jump of 7.40m in the men's long jump and Kayla Hopkins taking fifth overall in the women's shot put (13.87m).
Kyra Johnson took second overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.51 and teammate Kamara Biawogi finished third overall in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.04.
Biawogi along with Devin Harrison, Alex Morris and Keane Bland, who took third in the men's 110 high hurdles (14.62), placed third in the men's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:17.76.
With the second outdoor meet of the season under their belts, the Bulldogs have a week till their next meet. The Fresno State track and field team will be heading up north to the Sac Mondo Invitational at Sacramento State on April 4.
