Maiar Sherif Ahmed Named Mountain West Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State freshman tennis player Maiar Sherif Ahmed was named Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Sherif Ahmed led the Bulldogs to pair of wins on the week which included defeating Boise State in the team's conference opener, before topping then-No. 44 Colorado, 4-1. She went 4-0 on the weekend, winning straight-set matches against Teal Vosburgh of Boise State and Tina Bokhua at No. 1 singles, while teaming up with sister Rana to win both of their doubles matches at No. 1.
Maiar is currently on an 10-match winning streak in both singles and doubles, and has not dropped a match in dual matches this season.
She is one of three Bulldogs to garner the weekly honor this season, and the second in her family, as Rana won it after the opening week of the season.
