CORVALLIS, Ore. - Nine innings were not enough for Fresno State's series opener at Oregon State, a game that pushed forward 11 innings until the Beavers hit a walk-off home run to earn Friday night's 2-1 win over the 'Dogs in Corvallis.
In the end, Oregon State used two solo home runs to seal its victory in a pitchers duel between both programs' Friday night aces, Jimmy Lambert and Andrew Moore.
Lambert dealt seven innings in the start, surrendering one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk. The Fresno State sophomore did not allow a hit until the fourth. The third hit allowed was in the sixth, a solo shot by Jeff Hendrix to lead off the inning that tied the game at one apiece. It was Hendrix's fourth homer of the season and the second Lambert has allowed in 2015.
Austin Guibor produced the Bulldogs' one run earlier in the game. He hit a leadoff double down the right field line in the top half of the fourth - the games first hit. Taylor Ward later hit into a double play that advanced Guibor home after Jake Stone singled on the previous at bat to push Guibor to third.
Moore kept the Bulldogs at bay for the rest of the game from the mound for Oregon State. Moore worked into the extra innings, exiting after the 10th. In 10.0 innings on the mound, Moore allowed one earned run on three hits. He struck out 10 against one walk late in the ninth.
William Munro (0-1) was charged with the loss after surrendering the walk-off home run to leadoff batter K.J. Harrison in the bottom of the 11th. Mitch Hickey (4-0) picked up the win in one inning of scoreless relief.
The loss snaps a six-game winning streak the Bulldogs' owned on Oregon State dating back to 1991.
Fresno State drops to 7-6 overall and continues to seek its first road win of the season. Oregon State improves to 10-3 and are winners of six-straight.
The four-game series continues Saturday with a pair of games. The first game of the doubleheader is set for 1:05 p.m. between Fresno State and Oregon State. LHP Dylan Lee is projected to get the game one start vs. RHP Drew Rasmussen. The following game will pit RHP Dominic Topoozian up against RHP Travis Eckert.
